HCCC is very blessed with the commitment and dedication of its volunteers, many of who have been with us since the Centre opened.
One of our longstanding volunteers sadly died on the 4th April 2023 just before what would have been her 90th birthday, having stepped down as a volunteer only in January.
Three of us were privileged to attend her very well-attended funeral service on the 3rd June at Park Hall in Harpenden. The service was a Quaker funeral and it was wonderful to hear so many of her family and friends speak about the Gillian they knew. She was a woman of enormous heart who was so kind, generous and dedicated to others. The service was followed by, in her words, a bun fight at the Friends’ Meeting House when the weather was perfect and there were indeed lots of buns and other goodies for us to enjoy and to have more opportunity to talk about Gillian and the legacy she has left. We express our great thanks to her through Donald and her family for the chance to know a special lady who will be greatly missed.
