We are very sorry to say goodbye to one of our original Volunteers, Jean McIntosh, who has decided after 17 years with HCC that the time has come to step down. She will be missed.

Although not a Roman Catholic, Jean went to a Convent school which had as its motto “I shall serve”, which Jean thinks has motivated her throughout her life. She trained as a nurse and was Practice Nurse with The Elms in Harpenden for many years. When Loretta Ramswell suggested starting a Contact Centre in Harpenden, Jean was pleased to get involved, and has enjoyed seeing the vital role the Contact Centre plays in developing relationships between children and their parents, as well as the trust between the adults in the child’s life.

Jean remains very active both with her family and the local community. Since moving to Harpenden in the 1980’s, she has been a member of the congregation at St Nick’s Church where she is a lay leader of Worship. She continues to help with Helping Hand and is also very much involved with her neighbours where she is the secretary of the Committee and Events organiser. She loves to travel, going to the theatre, and other outings.

We wish Jean well for her continued good health and in all her remaining activities.
